Sobuj Bangladesh: An Attempt to Heal Earth and Balance Environmental Instability

The Earth faces extreme challenges due to climate change, with rising temperatures, deforestation, and increasing carbon emissions leading to severe environmental imbalances. These adverse conditions threaten humans and the countless species that share our planet. An initiative of tree plantation taken by the Enroute Foundation aims to address these issues head-on.

Planting trees is one of the most effective ways to combat climate change, as trees absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, and create a liveable atmosphere for wildlife. Restoring green spaces can mitigate environmental disasters, improve air quality, and promote biodiversity, fostering a healthier planet for all.

Enroute Foundation has taken initiatives to plant 3 lac trees nationwide powered by the “Sobuj Bangladesh” campaign; the first attempt of this project allowed us to plant 50 thousand trees in the Purbachal area.

To beat the environmental crisis, on July 8, 2024, the Purbachal Mechanical Stockyard premises transformed into a hub of ecological activity as the Enroute Foundation, in collaboration with The Ministry of Housing and Public Works, organized a highly successful tree plantation event.

Planned Preparation That Leads To a Successful Inauguration Ceremony

The journey to this remarkable day began months earlier, with meticulous planning and a strong commitment by the Enroute Foundation and all partners involved. The Enroute Foundation spearheaded the “Sobuj Bangladesh” campaign, an initiative to plant trees nationwide, coordinating efforts with the Ministry of Housing and Public Works to ensure a seamless execution.

Our primary goal was to enhance the greenery in the Purbachal area by planting 50 thousand trees, contributing to a healthier environment, and fostering community awareness about the importance of tree plantation.

At 9 am, the Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works officially inaugurated the program, R A M Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, who graced the event as the chief guest. The presence of Major General (retd) Dr. Siddiqur Rahman Sarkar, Chairman of the RAJUK, Dhaka, as the special guest, and Mr. Nabirul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry, who presided over the event, underscored the significance of this initiative.

Like any large-scale project, the event faced its share of challenges. Unpredictable weather conditions, tight schedules, and logistical hurdles required swift problem-solving and adaptability.

However, the combined efforts of all partners ensured that these obstacles were efficiently managed, allowing the event to proceed smoothly.

On this particular day of the event, the weather was just fine. It was a warm, sunny monsoon day, a perfect day for planting trees, a time of year when the season supports tree plantation.

As the arrangements were completed in the prior days of the event and the event started at the right time with the presence of honorable guests and other participants, the chief guest started the event by planting a sapling with his hand as an inaugural remark.

Student volunteers from local educational institutions participated in the event and took part in question-answer sessions as a part of the occasion that helped the audience and the honorable guests to interact one-on-one and engage better.

Accompanied by volunteers from the community, the honorable chief guests and officials from Enroute Foundation and other organizations planted saplings, symbolizing the collective effort towards a greener future.

A rally was held to encourage the residents of nearby localities about tree plantations and the impact of such acts on environmental benefits. Such initiatives showcase that participants included students and members of various non-profit organizations, all united by a shared commitment to environmental sustainability.

The collaborative spirit was palpable as volunteers and officials from the Enroute Foundation worked hand in hand, ensuring that each sapling was planted with care and dedication. The Enroute Foundation also managed the entire preparation for the tree plantation and efficiently sourced 50,000 saplings for this purpose, leading to a successful conclusion of the event.
